I Become the Dog in an All Female Household – English translation patch v1.0

I have created a translation patch for “I Become the Dog in an All Female Household”, the debut game from Kuromanjuu. You can read all about the game on VNDB: https://vndb.org/v28697

UPDATE: Weta over at F95zone was kind enough to create an xdelta file of the patch, which you can apply to your JokeiKazoku.exe executable using simple tools like DeltaPatcher or xdeltaUI. You can download it from the link below:

You can also download my patch files and wrapper scripts from the following links:

Note that you need the full game to use the patch.

Any and all feedback welcome!

APPLYING THE PATCH

You may prefer to use the xdelta patch, which you can apply using tools like DeltaPatcher or xdeltaUI.

Otherwise simply unzip the translation patch archive into the base game directory, which should contain the game binary (JokeiKazoku.exe). You should NOT be required to overwrite anything.

RUNNING THE GAME

If you have applied the patch using the xdelta file, you can simply launch your patched executable.

Otherwise the patch also includes launch scripts for Windows and Linux. The scripts apply the translation to a temporary folder into which TyranoBuilder extracts the game data every time a game is launched:

ON WINDOWS
Execute the “JokeiKazoku_Win_[English].bat” script file.

ON LINUX (requires Wine!)
Execute the “JokeiKazoku_Win_[English].sh” script file.

You might see the following command line messages:
“Checking if Wine is available…” (Linux only)
“Waiting for the game data to extract…”
“Applying translation patch…”
These are normal and will show up every time the game is launched.

PATCH NOTES FOR VERSION 1.0

  1. Make sure you support the developers: https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ281393.html
  2. This is my first full VN translation. I hope you enjoy it!
  3. I was not sure how to package patches for TyranoBuilder games so I wrote my own wrapper scripts for Linux and Windows. Hopefully they’ll work for you. They simply wait for TyranoBuilder to extract its data into a temporary folder, then replace some files with their translated versions. Feel free to package the patch in some other way if you wish, or adapt my wrapper scripts for other TyranoBuilder games.
  4. I did not make a macOS script because I did not have one handy for testing. Sorry!
  5. I have decided to do a minimum of localization, keeping the honorifics, name order (although I have noticed that the devs swapped it in the credits…), words like “senpai”, and so on. This includes the use of the lone letter “M” to mean “masochist” on the “DIAGNOSIS” screens at the end of each route, which should hopefully still be understandable enough. I kept it there mostly to preserve the lame pun about going beyond M and into N. Also, I am sometimes under the impression that the Japanese use “S” and “M” to mean something closer to respective Western concepts of a “dom” and “sub”. If I were to thoroughly localize this, I would be tempted to use those instead of the more typical “sadist” and “masochist”.
  6. The game data includes some (unused) scenario scripts for bonus scenarios. I have not translated those.
  7. I was torn between simple ellipses and various iterations of “ngh” as the “translation” of the voiceless? “っっ” grunt, and decided on the latter, mostly due to how many ellipses there already were in the script… Sorry… ngh…
  8. I have particularly enjoyed doing the minor shiny bits like the “DIAGNOSIS” screens at the end of each route, the menus, or the route choice buttons.
